Water is the main front we fight on. Most communities in Africa are near water, but it is either contaminated or under ground. Providing clean drinking water turns communities struggling with sickness, disease and death in to ones of abundant life. To date zao has completed 92 water sources in Kenya and Tanzania: ![]()
57 springs 2 tanks
SpringsIn communities where an above ground spring is available, we capture and develop the spring, protecting it and insuring the water is clean and safe. We build a stone and mortor reservoir. We also build a fence and drainage system around the spring to keep it clear of debris and animals. A spring provides a constant flow of purified water. WellsIn places where the water table is at 30 feet or less, we dig wells by hand. In Tanzania and Burkina Faso, the water table is often times as deep as 300 feet we use a drill rig. Each of our wells has a hand or foot pump and receives regular maintenance. Catchment TanksRain water harvesting has been around for hundreds of years. It is in use in developed and under-developed nations alike. Often, in African countries, the issue is not that it never rains, but rather that when it does, most of the runoff is lost. A rain water tank can help a community make the best use of a natural water source. |
